small white spots growing on my Rope Fish???

i just started a 55 gal set up a little over 2 weeks ago.....i have at least 15 other small assorted fish in the tank.....i just brought a rope fish last week, and now i'm noticing small white spots growing along his back....is this some type of bacteria, or could he be stressed out??? the lady at the pet store dropped him when bagging him up, but i don't know if that caused any trama....please anybody that can help!!!
i regularly take my water to the pet store to be checked and all my levels are good.

Sounds like you have ick. You need to get some type of medication that kills bacteria or fungus, but what I have realized about most of the medications is that they will taint your water to make it so that light can not penetrate to your fish, what this does is it makes it so the bacteria can not grow, and this will eventually kill the fungus, bacteria. If your fish has cuts then you will want to apply melafix, then the ick medication.
What I'm thinking happened is that when your fish was dropped that it suffered some type of beak in the scales or fins, then it was severely stressed out which weakened it's immune system, this means that anything that was in your tank that your fish can fight off is now attacking your new fish.
OR when the fish got dropped at the pet store and put in to the bag with the water form the pet store that it gained the infection from their water since it's not the best water in the world for fish.
So review points:
1. Odds are that the fish had the infection when you bought it but it's just now coming out from all the stress that's weakened it's immune system.
2. Or when your fish was dropped that it suffered some sort of break which resulted in an inffection that was eitherin that pet stores water that was in the transport bag. Or the infection was obtained from your water because the fish's immune system was shot from all the stress, and your fish are fine because they can fish of what's in the tank because they have a healthy immune system.
So what to do?
First I would look for open wounds of some kind and see if there are any. Even if you don't find any I would add melafix just be safe, this will help to heal the wound. Then I would add some kind of ick, bacteria, fungus killer. This will kill the infection.
But what I do for the bacteria, fungus, ick to save money i just put a towel over the tank to black it out, I also leave the lights off. I keep that tank this way until I see that the dots of salt looking things all over the fish are gone. But if you have plants in the tank you will want to just add the medications, or the lack of light will kill them.
If you want more help on this you can visit this site and ask you question, you don't even need to join it, you simply just type your question in, it's real nice I go here all the time
