The Dr. Who Sci-Fi Series And DW Audios Serial: Some History
Almost everyone in countries like the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zeeland and Australia etcetera should have heard of the famous science Fiction show DW from the BBC! Thanks to the resurrection of the serial in 2005 after a 15 year stop, Doctor Who is as popular as ever with episodes being shown on the international sci-fi channel and even on USA television channels in addition to the BBC's broadcasts.
DW all began in November 1963 when it's 1st episode aired on television taking the Dr. & his comrades back into the past where they aided some cavemen to make the discovery of fire. Taking into account the all-new show DW is currently the longest running Sci-Fi series of all time! Star Trek happens to be the 2nd longest running Science fiction series of all time having began in nineteen sixty thee with episodes in production up in to only a few years ago.
During the 70s the BBC expanded Dr. Who into the audio median creating the first Doctor Who Audio. In the beginning the BBC only created soundtracks from the original series & then had the Drs of the time add some binding narration to unify the dialog for the listener. It wasn't long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book stories only for Audiobook release.
To add to this the BBC started making radio stories, again with past Doctors who had played in the show, these stories were also made accessible in Audio Book format. Also a lot of of the lost stories have been re done by their original Drs in the Audio Book format making them finally available to the public once more. The collection spans all the way though the first Doctor right up until the present Doctor, David Tennant. Also Torchwood Audio Books & Sarah Jane Audio Books have also been added recently.
One of the really good things about Dr. Who Audiobooks is that they give us the freedom to listen to our favorite episodes anywhere we want with the use of the modern mp3 player. Audios help us to get more out of our increasingly busier days, as it is so easy for as to listen to them while doing other things like working out, house work, driving, & and additional chores that allow us to multitask. Another reason why individuals like Dr. Who audio is because in many cases the audio episodes are now read by the actors of the serial. They are also a excellent choice for long car rides, especially with kids as there’s nothing like a good Dr. Who show to keep them busy.
With the Doctor Who New show going from strength to strength and everyday additional Audios being created available both from the old & new serial & now from Torchwood & The Sarah Jane Adventures as well, it looks like DW and Doctor Who Audios are here to stay for some time to come!
